D-Series Multicarrier Radio Site (DBR M12)

High-Density P25 Radio Site for Today’s Demands

The Motorola DBR M12 is the next-generation multicarrier radio site designed to modernize P25 system infrastructure with industry-leading capacity, space efficiency, and uptime. Supporting up to 12 carriers per rack (24 TDMA voice paths), it reduces physical footprint while increasing operational resilience and cybersecurity protections. Whether deployed as a trunking repeater or simulcast subsite, the DBR M12 delivers flexible, software-driven control and dynamic resource allocation—all while simplifying updates and maintenance.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Supports up to 12 carriers per rack — Maximize density in space-constrained sites
  • Multicarrier amplifier bank — Shares PAs across channels for improved resiliency
  • 50 kHz carrier spacing — Increases frequency availability and simplifies planning
  • N+1 transceiver redundancy — Keeps communications running even during equipment failures
  • Software-based architecture — Enables zero-downtime updates and dynamic channel management
  • Built-in GNSS timing and optional Rubidium holdover — Replaces external timing solutions
  • Advanced cybersecurity — NIST-based protections with hardened OS and patching workflows
  • Compatible with ASTRO® 25 systems — Seamless integration with existing Motorola infrastructure

Built for Resilience and Redundancy

With no single point of failure impacting more than one channel, the DBR M12 features pooled power amplifiers, redundant site routers and processors, and dynamic software-based load balancing. During a failure, the system can reroute resources in real-time without impacting call traffic, providing unmatched uptime and disaster recovery.

Smarter Frequency Planning

Thanks to its 50 kHz transmit spacing and software-defined architecture, the DBR M12 triples the number of usable frequencies compared to traditional sites with 150 kHz spacing. Frequency changes can be done remotely, eliminating the need for manual combiner tuning and making channel additions or reconfigurations fast and cost-effective.

Up to 50% Smaller Footprint

Each DBR M12 rack consolidates RF distribution, site processors, power supplies, timing sources, and backhaul into a streamlined cabinet—cutting required space in half compared to legacy equipment. This helps reduce real estate costs for leased or rooftop environments and simplifies installation logistics.

Cybersecurity You Can Count On

Motorola designed the DBR M12 around the NIST Cybersecurity Framework to proactively protect against modern threats. It features:

  • Centralized authentication and encrypted config data (TPM, TLS v1.3)
  • Hardened Red Hat Enterprise Linux® OS
  • Support for vulnerability scans, event logging, and file integrity checking
  • Regular patch updates and firewall customization
  • Automatic database replication for faster disaster recovery

System Configurations and Compatibility

  • Configurations:
    • Trunking repeater site (ASR)
    • Trunking simulcast subsite

Migration from GTR 8000

DBR M12 can be rolled out gradually alongside existing GTR systems. Although GTR and DBR sites cannot operate in the same trunking site, they can coexist within the same zone core. This gives operators the flexibility to migrate individual sites over time, prioritize space-constrained or high-traffic locations, and use decommissioned GTR units to support other expansion efforts.

Modernize Your Radio Site Infrastructure

The DBR M12 is more than an upgrade—it’s a new foundation for scalable, resilient, and cyber-secure P25 radio systems. Whether you’re expanding a simulcast network, adding capacity to remote sites, or upgrading aging hardware, the D-Series multicarrier radio site delivers smarter ownership and reliable performance.
