About Evolv’s Technology

Q: How does Evolv Technology do it?
Evolv Express is an AI-driven system using safe, ultra-low frequency, electromagnetic fields and advanced sensors to detect concealed weapons.

Q: What is the Evolv Cortex AI™ software platform?
The Evolv Cortex AI™ software platform serves as the brain and connective tissue to seamlessly integrate and process data from multiple sensors. The platform is also constantly learning, meaning Evolv Express “evolves” over time as new threats are identified.

Q: Can this solution be integrated into our SOC?
Yes, creating an environment where visitors feel safe – and actually are – is a top priority. Often, added security means more manpower, but not with Evolv.  With Evolv Express, you now have the ability to integrate available security cameras directly into your security operations center (SOC), video management system (VMS), or other AI video analytics system.

Q: How fast & easy is Express for our guests?
It’s simple and frictionless. Evolv Express can screen up to 3,600 people per hour. That’s 60 people per minute or one person each second. Guests never break stride as they walk through the touchless system and there is no need for them to open their bag or display their mobile device. Guests and employees just keep moving and can start their experience at your venue immediately.

Q: How easy is it for our security team to operate the system?
It’s simple. Image-aided alarms are provided via wired or wireless tablets, providing guards with clear visual highlights of where the potential threat is on a person or their bag.  Further, Evolv provides operator training for security teams during deployment of the system, along with training videos that staff members can review at a later date.

Q: Is the system portable?
Yes, the system has built-in wheels allowing it to be moved to different locations for your venue and facility needs. In addition, the optional Evolv Express Mobility Cart solution is purpose-built to hold up to two side towers and four tablet stands—the standard configuration for a dual-lane system. A weather-resistant cover for the larger center tower stores the two floor mats with cabling installed, simplifying set-up, transport, and storage of the systems.

Q: Can Evolv Express be used outdoors?
Yes, there are indoor and outdoor systems available.

Q: What is the Evolv Digital Threshold vision?
Within the Digital Threshold vision, venues and facilities can intelligently use data to create a frictionless experience for their guests and employees. The result is an entry process that enhances the overall experience instead of diminishing it, as is often the case today.

Q: Why does Evolv use a subscription-based sales model?
Evolv Technology believes that providing a superior security solution is a true partnership.  Evolv does not believe in just selling a product, dropping off a crate and leaving – never to be seen again. Instead, its solutions are built to grow smarter over time, meaning we provide software updates, ConOp support, support services, and periodic security training. For this reason, Evolv built a subscription model.

Evolv Technologies standard subscription model is a four-year subscription for Evolv Express that includes hardware, software, and 24/7 service and support. This means:

  • Evolv is there for installation and training.
  • Evolv is there by phone, email, and Zoom for support questions.
  • Evolv provides access to standards systems software version updates and enhancements.

Evolv also provides a purchase-subscription model that our sales team can discuss with you to ensure we meet your needs.

About Evolv Express Integrations

Q: Does Evolv offer integrations with other security technologies?
Yes. Evolv Express offers robust integrations with popular VMS (Video Management System) and Mass Notification technologies. These integrations help coordinate and accelerate threat response across the extended security ecosystem, connecting personnel and the technologies they rely on with vital information about identified weapons threats found at venue ingress.

Q: What information can be shared with the technologies that integrate with Evolv Express?
With the consent of a customer administrator, Evolv Express can share alert images, along with the time, date, location, and type of weapon found whenever a threat item is confirmed at the system by the Express operator.

In addition, any “Request Assistance” notifications made by an Evolv Express operator can appear as an alert in the integrated security technology, including any typed message describing the help required at the system.

Q: How does an Evolv Express operator confirm there is a weapons threat in order to automatically notify an integrated technology?
When the operator tags the threat localization image on the tablet to identify the type of weapon, the associated threat localization image, along with the threat type, time, date, and location are all sent to the integrated technology within a matter of seconds.

Q: What can integrated security technologies do with the threat information provided by Evolv Express?
Evolv Express alerts work just like any other alert information received by the integrated technology. Depending on the technology you have chosen to integrate with the Evolv Express, the integrated technology can be configured to automatically trigger downstream workflows and actions with that information.

Q: Where are alert images stored and for how long?
Integrations between Evolv Express and other technologies are managed by secure connections to the AWS cloud. Consent must be given by the customer administrator to accept that images will be sent to and stored on the cloud for the default time period, 7 days, after which time they are automatically deleted. Alert images are only sent to and stored on the cloud if the customer administrator provides affirmative consent. If they do not consent to it, alert images are not sent to the cloud.

Q: Can this solution be integrated into our SOC?
Yes, creating an environment where visitors feel safe – and actually are – is a top priority. Often added security means more manpower, but not with Evolv Express. With Evolv Express, you can integrate available security cameras directly into your security operations center (SOC), video management system (VMS), or other AI video analytics systems.

Personal Safety

Q: Is the Evolv Express system safe?
Evolv is dedicated to safety, quality, and consistency of our products.  The Evolv Express system has been safety tested and meets the following certifications

  • FCC CFR Part 15, CE Mark (CE Directives and Standards); Global CB Scheme per CBTL Safety Standard.
  • UL 61010, EN61010, IEC 61010 and CAN/CSA 61010-1.

The system uses extremely low frequency radio waves (ELF) that are in the range used by some Electronic Anti-Theft Systems (EAS), widely deployed in retail settings for loss prevention

Q. Is the Evolv Express system safe for people with an implanted or wearable medical device?
In keeping with FDA guidance on EAS and walk-through metal detectors, it is recommended that visitors and system operators with implantable or wearable medical devices consult their device manufacturer or physician for information relating to their own specific device.  An alternative screening approach is recommended for anyone who has safety concerns.

Q. Is the Evolv Express system safe for pregnant people?
The Evolv Express uses extremely low-frequency radio waves (ELF) — a non-ionizing sensing modality — in compliance with IEEE’s 2019 guidance for safe operation with the general public, which it defines as including pregnant people and their unborn children. An alternative screening approach is recommended for anyone who has safety concerns.

Privacy Concerns

Q: What information or images of me are stored on your systems?
Evolv’s objective is to provide the best security without compromising privacy or convenience. The information captured is a standard picture, like one taken from a smartphone camera or captured by CCTV. If a potential threat is detected, the picture appears on screen with a box highlighting where the threat is located to help security teams focus on that specific area. For clarity, Evolv does not collect, process, or use any personal identifiable information. The identity of any individual passing through a Evolv Express system will remain completely anonymous.

Q: Why do the systems have cameras?
Evolv Express systems have cameras to capture a photographic image of threats that are identified. When the system alarms, an image instantly appears on the guard’s tablet with a box overlaid on the image to indicate the area of concern on a given person or their bag.

Q: What types of analytics could I gather through Evolv Insights® and how can I utilize them?
Evolv Insights® provides information about visitor flow rates and alarm rates, broken down by entryway, time, and date. This provides a rich set of metrics for security and operations leaders to view and interrogate. Further, the data acquired by Evolv Express, and visible in the Evolv Insights web-based application, allows you to make critical decisions to improve security staffing and training, visitor traffic flow, operational efficiencies, and venue resource usage.
